Once a simple summer cottage, the owners wanted larger, light and bright year round home which would retain the snug, cozy character of the cottage they loved. The original exposed stone chimney (visible both inside and outside), the wide overhangs and the several porches indicated an Arts and Crafts, or Craftsman influence, which AXIOM developed fully in the renovation and addition.
The focus of the new plan is the open living/dining/kitchen area. This room is flooded with light from the grouped tall windows and from clerestory windows the gabled dormers.
The final product is an extremely livable, warm and comfortable house which provides the owners with all the modern amenities within a serene, simply embellished building. Here the simple crafted detail in the home provides the owners with a contemplative sense of place and time, strengthened by the reinterpretation of an historical style.
